Norton Antivirus slowing down computer? Best answer on the web

  • I recently installed Norton Antivirus onto my computer and now it is way slower than it used to be. I have Spybot Search and Destroy but I wasn't sure if it was okay by itself. If anyone knows how to speed it up please tell me.


  • I got rid of Norton for that reason... slow as molasses on a cold winter morn.

    No more Norton. its also more expensive, less customer service for the buck.



    I use Vrobot by Hauri.. Three years for what Norton was charging, better anti virus and free customer service, with actual customer service.


  • My experience with Norton is also the same. It considerably reduces computer speed. Spywareterminator / AVG /lavasoft seems to be better and more efficient


  • Remove it and get a free one, like avgfree or avast.



    I had to use norton when a company I worked for had it installed, it had various compatibility problems with various programs.


  • I highly recommend you don't use Norton's. Norton's is not rated high in detection / removal of viruses

    by those who test these programs (av-comparitives., virus.gr, etc)

    and Norton's is notorious for slowing your computer to a crawl.

    ( I used this to remove spyware and Trojans from a laptop that adaware would only detect but not get rid of ) It detected and removed everything


  • get rid of norton and get AVG free. norton is the #1 easily defeated anti virus program.


  • Norton is horrible...I'd get rid of it. You can download the free version of AVG and its awesome. Infinitely better than Norton.

  • Yep that's probably it. Run a scan on the system to make sure you have no viruses, and if not, you might have to get rid of it.

    AVAST! is a good, free antivirus which is way better in my opinion.


  • Norton doesn't perform well if you are looking for speed. Norton also isn't the best anti-vrus software either. Try choosing a different one.
