We live in the States but there's a British Couple who opened a tea shop near us and they serve authentic High Tea from 2-4. Are the sandwiches on up to the cakes very filling? Do you usually just have soup for dinner later if you have High Tea (that way I can tell my husband if he'll need to get his own dinner)?

Sounds like fun I have 2 teenage daughters on their way up and out and Id love to do something like that with them. Not sure if they would have soemthing of that nature in our area. Have fun and enjoy their youth. Report Abuse
I would answer yes, the food is filling.wel to be honest i live in england and i know that actualy the last answer (myspace's answer) was the most correct to the english tea's these days, ther wil be all sorts ther but not just typical english stuff like scones, victoria sponges etc and yes; it's engish so of course its fillin lol Report Abuse
I took my little girl to High Tea as well. Okay, seeing as how you are going to tea hosted by actual Brits, it might vary.
Ours included: finger sandwiches 3 kinds, scones 2 kinds, cookies 3 kinds, soup, tea, devonshire cream and preserves. All of the sandwiches scones and cookies came on one of those silver 3 tiered trays. The cream and preserves came in porceline (sp?) saucers and servers and the tea was in a beautiful pot with matching cups. It was heavenly. The tea house had just opened (in Northern CA) and they handed out giant long-stemmed fabric roses to all the little girls. It was great. Your girls will love it.
Oh, I would encourage you to dress them up even in play dress up clothes. There were other little girls there who were dressed that way.When I used to go to Tea at my British friend's house, we would toast home-made English muffins on long-handled forks over a fire in the fireplace. They served hot cocoa for the kids as often as tea. Report Abuse
