My friend managed to get a spiral fracture of his upper arm which has been plated w/ I think he said a 11" x 4.5mm plate. 11 screws holding it all together. I know you have not seen the x-ray, but a year down the road when it's all healed up, do you recommend pulling the plate out or leaving it if it doesn't bother? Also, if left in, what would be the down side of crashing on it once again? Thaks for all the help Dr. Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taking out hardware from the humerus is risky for injury to the radial nerve. I always leave that hardware in. Taking it out is not worth a nerve palsy.

Dr. Mark....i think it's awesome you offer straight-shooter advice. This is an invaluable resource. Hopefully I won't need any surgeries anytime soon...but if i do....i feel better knowing we have someone who understands our needs !!
